A Café by Day, a Little Bar by Night: How Quitters Became Fully Licensed

November 5, 2020 · Words by Reese Caldwell

People are sometimes surprised, mid afternoon coffee, to learn they can order a glass of Ontario wine instead. The truth is Quitters has worn two hats for a long time now: a calm café through the day, and a warm little local bar once the light fades.

From a coffee bar to a full café

We opened in 2014 as a coffee bar with a handful of select baked goods. It grew, as these things do, into a proper café with breakfast sandwiches, light lunches and a frankly sinister selection of homemade squares and scones. The full story lives on our about page.

Getting licensed

Becoming fully licensed let us do the evenings properly. We are licensed to serve from 11am, and the night menu kicks in at 6pm Monday to Saturday. That means a lovingly curated draft and canned beer selection, a short wine list of three reds and three whites always available, and sharing plates for the table. It is all laid out on the eats & drinks menu.

Still the same room

Nothing about the licence changed who we are. It is still the same room on Main Street, still dog friendly, still a place to bring the kids and a board game in the afternoon. Check the hours and come see for yourself.
