Pull Up a Chair: The Quitters Story on Main Street

June 22, 2020 · Words by Harriet Vance

Every café has an origin story. Ours starts, improbably, as a joke told on a tour bus. Taking a break from music to open a coffee shop was the sort of thing the band laughed about on the road. In 2014 the joke stopped being a joke.

Rescuing a building

Kathleen rescued an unloved building on Main Street, and what began as a labour of love turned into a thriving hub for Stittsville. You can read more about Kathleen and the early days on our about page.

Becoming part of the community

We are fortunate to serve an amazing clientele, locals and out of towners alike, who come for great coffee, delicious food and the best craft beers, wines and spirits in the area. Somewhere along the way the café became a hub: a place for a quiet flat white, a rowdy Saturday trivia night, or a cold ice tea lemonade after a bike ride. Dogs on the patio are not just tolerated, they are expected.

Harriet Vance · Journal Editor & Floor Manager

Harriet keeps the Quitters journal (and the Saturday trivia scoreboard) in order. She has worked the floor on Stittsville Main Street since the early days and still reckons the flat white is the most honest drink we make.
